Traditionally the new leadership team is in charge of organizing senior night, not only to let the seniors who were on the leadership team the past year off the hook for the night, but also as a way of symbolizing the transition from the old to new. Not only remembering the past year but also looking forward to next fall. This year half of the new leadership team is currently studying abroad, but the two students who were here did a great job :)
The two girls took turns emceeing the night. The first, Morgan, introduced the night and the way it was going to look, then we moved into worship, which consisted of songs requested by seniors~ Heart of Worship, Be Thou My Vision & It is Well with My Soul. All great choices.
We next moved to announcements- yes, even at the last FNF we still had a couple! One for the traditional DCF pinic at Laurel Lake that would take place the next day,
Laurel Lake Saturday for the picnic |
the other one last plug for chapter camp. If you have a facebook account and would like to see more of what camp is actually like, click here: http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10150557219160707&comments We showed this video to the students on Friday and then my supervisor, who had come for a meeting with Kara & I earlier, gave a few words encouraging students to come.
After announcements we watched a slideshow made by Morgan (another tradition) that contained pictures of all the seniors, quotes and verses, with songs playing in the background.
You may notice that one girl seems to be particularly prominent- that is due to her best friend purposely supplying a large amount of photos of her :) Everyone enjoyed the slideshow, there were many laughs as well as some "awww"s.
After the slideshow we moved to a different room (unfortunately we couldn't be in our usual Memorial Hall because of the trustees being in town) where we could arrange the chairs in a circle and then began the time where everyone shared memories of the seniors. There were many "I remember when I met...", funny & special stories and a lot more laughing. While sharing stories and eating snacks, we passed around the senior books- little booklets for each senior that people could write notes in. I still have mine :)
The night concluded with a trip up to North Mountain. We drove most of the way up the mountain then hiked up to this rock outcropping where we could sit and stargaze. Many shooting stars were spotted, and it was a great time to sit back, forget the stress of finals, enjoy each others company and God's beautiful nighttime creation.
